Lessons learnt - part II.
Events in Autumn 2020 and first protests
As the election day is coming, I think it’s important to continue with self-reflection of past 5 years since the fateful day of 7th March 2020 when everything broken down to pieces. The first part of the self-reflection is available here.
Let’s begin after my return back from Valencia, Spain in Autumn 2020. I forgot to mention in first part, that after the first covid lockdown, during summer 2020 I have moved with my girlfriend who was working as a nurse in Prague Hospital together in new apartment, as I have been expecting some troubles on horizons and thought it would be better to have her closer to me.
When I returned back from Spain, it was already clear for me, how nonsense this theater was. In Spain we obeyed all the protocols and liturgically measured temperature 3x per day, wear masks during day and do everything which our high-WHO church ordered us to do. Strangely, in the night when there was dark, nobody cared a slightest bit. We were drinking from same bottle, doing all kind of games and just normally living. Still, the virus didn’t approached us as we had moral shield from evil sickness which were sent to this world to purify the humanity.
Autumn 2020
I do remember, even joking that our country has to have strong genes, so we are not affected as much as our neighbors in Spain. I didn’t knew, what was waiting for me upon my return.
When we landed back in Czech Republic the media campaign was in full swing. The cases were rising everywhere! The Autumn respiratory season is here and we need to protect people. Lock down the country Mr. Prime Minister!
And they really did it. For me it was fine, we had fun during first lockdown, the older enjoyed their political fights and promised to never close down the country again. Of course, they lied. Their bullet-prof statistics were showing them, that this dangerous virus needs to be eliminated as the hospitals were front of collapse.
The truth is, that the hospitals were collapsing due to underfinancing and corruption years before. It was just the last hit, which they did via the lockdown. They really destroyed the health care workers and scared them so much, that they weren’t able to function properly. With the first lockdown they scared and postponed all the visits to doctors specially for the one who needed it most and with their promise to never-lock down the economy again, we went with full warp speed into Autumn without any preparation, when people scared of the new virus were coming in huge numbers to hospitals.
The system collapsed. Simple as that. Nurses were exhausted from the March 2020 overtimes, triage games and nobody was prepared for another round. It was kind of painful to watch that but hey, we have money so why not to spend it on emergency meetings, protective equipment purchases and constant propaganda in media. Also we can build military hospital even when we don’t have enough personnel to run it. Why not, we need to be seen as strong leaders and protectors of nation in distress.
First protests - 20th October 2020
At that time, more and more people became aware, that closing down their shops, pubs and restricting their constitutional rights is not good. As we somehow experienced, that the threat is not real, the protests started.
The first one was brutally smashed in center of Prague with police in full mode to “protect” the citizens from the evil virus. Evidentially the water canons are best way how to protect the health of people. I was invited to this protest by my friend from Prague but I didn’t attended. Only second day I seen in media what they done and how the police even used “provocateurs” to have reason to intervene.
I am not now exactly sure, if I have attended protests already in 2020 but I know that I have been with my girlfriend on celebration of foundation of Czechoslovakia on 28th October 2020. I still remember that day, it was rainy weather, empty city and what fascinated me after we get out of Metro on Wenceslas Square was that there were more police personnel then people who gathered to celebrate their own country independence. There were also helicopters monitoring situation and everyone was forced to obey the “protective” measures to not have so big groups together.
After that I think I was waiting for the New Years Eve celebration and results, how many people have really died in last year. The famous mortality data.
When I saw, that they killed around 17 000 people more than usually I was astonished. It was the biggest amount of excess deaths since foundation of Czech Republic in 1992. Here it’s like to kill small city as we have only 10 000 000 population.
I was really thinking that they were doing it only for money or fun and it won’t have any deadly consequences but this was tragic and I have decided to fully join the protests movements to stop this nonsense.
At that time, I didn’t know what I am going into but retrospectively I would still do the same. It was right decision and I don’t regret it. Those people are true heroes who stood up in time of need when the walls were closing really hard on us and payed horrible price for their disobedience.
I think for today this could be enough but stay tuned for the next part.
